The Heart of Le Berry

Roland was born in the village of St. Aout and lived in Issoudun in Le Berry Region of Central France.  Le Berry region consists of two departments: Cher and Indre.

Part of the culinary tour, "A Taste of Le Berry" includes visiting various private gardens and trips to local farms and markets.

One of my favorite dishes in France was fresh pumpkin soup! The French seem to appreciate and use pumpkin quite regularly, not just for a particular time of the year.

Working in the garden and raising some of your own food is a huge part of the culture in Central France. Along any stream or river, you can find many garden plots, one after another. Sometimes one is available to buy or rent and many people do so.

Every village has its specialty shops and it's always a treat to explore what they make and sell.

Bread is the soul of France.  In almost every household, bread is purchased or made fresh daily.
